Oriental Decorating

Although simplistic, the Oriental decorating style is well balanced and elegant.

There is an emphasis on architecture rather than the cluttering of spaces although mythical dragons and elephants fine themselves as part of the atmosphere.

Shoji screens, bamboo, wicker and fine art also adorn the various rooms.

It also speaks of practicality as furniture pieces often serve multiple functions. Black lacquered furniture with accents of gold or inlays of exotic woods give this style its elegance.

Color can be added through ivory, jade and onyx pieces. While authentic ivory is no longer legal to purchase, simulated pieces are abundantly available.

But if you are looking for the traditional color scheme than red, yellow, blue, white and black are what your after. These represent a belief that they are a direct correlation to the five elements; fire, wood, water, earth and metal.
